OVILLA - The Ovilla City Council took no action on an agenda item in which a presentation was given by a representative of the Trinity River Authority in regard to a study that had began last year regarding sewer flows in their system.
“They determined their flow meters in the Ovilla area were reading lower than they should be resulting in an under charge for sewer to the City,” says Mayor Richard Dormier. “This also resulted in the City budget for this year being low so we are being asked to pay Trinity River Authority for last year's underpayment as well as increased payments for this year. The council asked staff to look at several options regarding the issue and to bring back to our next city council meeting for consideration.”
Council accepted the Annual Financial Audit Report for the year ending September 30, 2013, prepared by Yeldell, Wilson and Company, C.P.A., P.C. as well as a Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute the Fourth Extension to the Letter of Understanding for Consultation Services with Jacqueline Lee, Consultant with Texas First Group. The future amount for continuing consultation is not to exceed $1,100
Council also approved a recommendation from the Economic Development Committee to remove Place 3 Director Milke pursuant to EDC Bylaws and council directed staff to solicit for applications for a new board appointment.
Also on the agenda with no action was the review of the city’s progress in obtaining the Leadership Award through the State Comptroller’s Office, which at a meeting held earlier in February was noted as a top priority for council action.
A new date and time was also discussed regarding the ongoing push to create a Citywide Five-Year Strategic Guide. At the council meeting the Town Hall Meeting to receive feedback on the draft for the Five-Year Strategic Guide was tentatively set for March 24 at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, but an alternative date of April 14 was also discussed and council will finalize dates in the near future.
All consent agenda items passed including the minutes of the Special Council Workshop meeting held on Jan. 27 and the February 6 Special Council meeting and training workshop as well as Regular City Council meeting minutes from Jan. 27 and Feb. 10, 2014.
