The FarmGirls have received their shipment of fresh-cut pine.
Cutting and clipping fresh pine branches, cedar branches loaded with berries, magnolia leaves, pine cones and yards and yards of ribbon.
We will craft lovely Christmas wreaths, bake rosemary rounds, wrap Christmas presents and sip some hot chocolate. It is December and The FarmGirls are hanging the greens!
Our first Christmas party is today, Sunday, Dec, 1 at The Greenery Gardens on Highway 77 between Waxahachie and Red Oak. We are having a Christmas Open House from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. We will have Justin Duncan presenting an informative workshop “Healthy Soils — The Mineralization of our Soils” and at 4 p.m. Lucy Harrell will be presenting, “Gifts From The Garden.”
There will be an Apple Butter Demo to attend also! The classes and refreshments are free, we will have a gift store and a Fairy Garden Bar available for purchase that day.
Donelle loves to visit goats and if you want some of your holiday festivities to include being up close and personal with farm animals be sure to check out Bethlehem Revisited in Waxahachie.
The dates for this event are Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from Dec. 6, 7 and 8 and Dec. 13, 14 and 15.
Bethlehem revisited is a living history event reenacting the Christmas story.
Beautiful farm animals are involved in this event including sheep, goats, chickens, donkeys and specimen camels.
A wonderful dedicated group of people present Bethlehem revisited every year.
When you visit be sure to see the yarn spinner, the bread bakers, the inn keepers and the shepherds in the fields.
The FarmGirls want to offer a “green tip” for your Christmas decorating. Consider the possibility of using a living Christmas tree.
Living trees can be purchased from local nurseries and box stores.
If the plans are to plant the tree after the holiday, there are some varieties more suited for our climate than others.
The Leyland cypress, Monterey pine, the deodar pine are all good selections.
Be sure and research the mature size of the tree before purchasing.
