Roger Glenn Hilburn was born June 16, 1957 in Monroe, La. to L.E. and Bonnie Hilburn. He passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 in Dallas. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, L.E. and Bonnie, and father-in-law John C. Herron Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Herron Hilburn; children, Brent Hilburn and wife Jamie, and Seth Hilburn; grandchildren, Christian, Logan and Brady Prewitt; brothers, David and wife Stephanie Hilburn, and Donald Hilburn; and best friends, Fred Shields and Tony Mobly.
Roger met the love of his life in homeroom class at West Monroe High School in the fall of 1972. Roger married Jane on July 22,1978. He had a distinguished career with the federal government for 30 years, with his last position as a regional director of the Employee Benefits Securities Association for the Department of Labor. He received the Elliot Daniel Award in 2008.
Roger was an avid redfish and white perch fisherman. His greatest passion was preparing meals for friends and family in the kitchen. Roger enjoyed sports teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, LSU Tigers and the Texas Rangers. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, co-worker, and coach of many sports teams. His greatest loves in life were his family, friends, and his Lord and Savior.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at Ovilla United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel Robbins officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Ovilla United Methodist Church or the Colon Cancer Alliance.
