To the Editor,

My name is Richard Vansyckle and I am the younger brother of William “Bill” Vansyckle who is running for county commissioner in Ellis County. I am writing this letter to give your readers a little inside perspective on a man I am proud to call my brother.

Bill is the patriarch of our family and through, all of our trials, tribulations, illness, accidents and deaths in our family he has been the rock our family has turned to to hold us together. He has sacrificed and supported all of us with no thought of ever receiving anything in return. He is truly unselfish in his motives and he is truly only interested in protecting his family, supporting his community, and doing everything in his power to help anyone who needs assistance.

Your readers might think I am biased (which I am) and therefore they can dismiss everything I am saying as just bloviating. So, let me give you a little background on why Bill turned out the way he did. The guiding light of our family was our grandfather Verner Martin Vansyckle. Our grandfather was a World War I veteran, Salvation Army Pastor with the rank of Brigadier, and the most honest, caring person I have ever known. He served many disparate populations in our society including homeless people, alcoholics, disaster victims, and the poor of all stripes before, during, and after the depression.

Our grandfather taught us that our purpose in life was not self-aggrandizement but service to any and all. Bill more than anyone in our family has lived up to that creed. He has taught us all by example how to be a better person, a better citizen, a better husband, a better father and a better grandfather. ?

If elected to serve as a representative on your county commissioners court he will bring the same commitment to service that he has demonstrated throughout his life. I have no doubt that he will be a proponent for the needs of your citizens who will do everything in his power to serve with honesty, integrity, and forthrightness. ?

In closing I just want to say that there is not a day that goes by that I do not declare by thought or word that my brother Bill is the best person I know. I strive every day to be like him and I am proud to call him my brother, my mentor and my friend.??

Richard Vansyckle,
