The Midlothian boys basketball team started it season last week and managed just one win in five contests.

In Midlothian's season-opener, the team had a lead in the fourth quarter against L.D. Bell, but couldn't hang on in the 59-50 loss.

The Panthers led 40-38 after three quarters, but couldn't hang on. Lance Tipton and Brandon Klor each scored 13 points to lead the team. The team got great effort defensively by Jeff Wilson and Russell Smith.

Midlothian then went to the Highland Park Tournament to try and get some experience and its first victory. The Panthers took on Austin High in the first game of the event and lost 72-59.

The Panthers hung tight for the first quarter and trailed by just one, but couldn't keep up the rest of the way. Ray Marshall led the team with 12 points and Russell Smith added 10.

In the second game of the tournament, the Panther had to face the host Scots and lost 73-59. Once again, the game was tight early and was tied at 16 after the first quarter. But Highland Park led the rest of the way to get the win.

Klor and Adrian Gordon each scored 13 points. Tipton scored a dozen points and Daniel Dopson added 10 in the loss.

On Saturday, the team took on Trinity Christian and lost 56-39. Midlothian trailed by 10 after the first quarter and couldn't get back in the contest.

Klor led the way with 15 points and Dopson scored 11. Gordon, Tipton and Smith each scored two points in the game.

The Panthers finally got their first win of the season in the tournament finale 61-27 against Lake Highlands. Midlothian took out a week's worth of aggression in the first quarter and jumped out to a 25-7 lead. The Panthers led 30-15 at the half, but blew the game wide open with a 21-2 run in the third quarter to put the game away.

Marshall led the team with 14 points and Tipton and Klor each scored 10. In total, 10 Panthers scored in the game as Ty McKay, Will Wiens and Wesley Smith also got in the action.

The Panthers (1-4) will play again Friday at home against Mesquite Poteet at 7:30 p.m.

The Midlothian JV basketball team started its season with a 63-21 loss to L.D. Bell. The Panthers hung tight, but were outscored 39-10 in the middle two quarter as Bell pulled away.

Isaiah Smith led the team with seven points and Henri Seastrunk added six. Nick Miller scored three points and led the team in rebounds.

The freshmen A and B teams started their seasons with wins against L.D. Bell. The A team got a thrilling 59-53 overtime victory.

Bell had a lead in the fourth quarter, but Chandler Miller hit a shot in the final seconds to force overtime. Miller also led the team with 15 points. Tyler Tobey scored nine points and Seth Golden added six. Payton Parker and Jaren Shead added great defense.

The B team didn't have any drama as it rolled to a 52-17 victory. Bell scored just two points in the second and fourth quarters as Midlothian put the game away. The Panthers were up 27-9 at halftime.

Rashwan Alameddine led the Panthers in scoring with 10, while Austin Parmer added eight and Bray Olmstead and Will Traylor each added seven. Greg Drake and Cameron Peay did a great job on defense, while Nathan Phillips and Tyler Maldonado were great rebounders.
