The Walnut Grove seventh-grade boys basketball teams took part in the Kennedale tournament recently and one squad came home a champion.
The B team accomplished that feat by going 3-0 in the tournament. On their way to victory, the Wildcats defeated Worley, Burleson Kerr and Crandall in the championship game.
Sterling Garcia was the leading scorer for the entire weekend with 20 points. Braden Wright led the team with eight points against Burleson Kerr.
Colin Coppock played locked down defense against each team's point guard. This championship took the total effort of all 16 players.
This gives them an overall record of 5-1 for the season.
The A team went 1-2 at the tournament.
It started with a 40-26 loss to Mansfield Worley. The Wildcats then won their second game against Frank Seale. In the last game of the tournament, WGMS lost a hard-fought battle 21-18 to Crandall.
The team showed glimpses of good things to come and a lot of improvement over the three games this weekend.
