The seventh-grade girls B team competed in the Walnut Grove tournament earlier this month.

The girls started the weekend off by playing Waxahachie Howard and won 27-6.

The girls played aggressive and were excited to finish their first game with a win.

On Saturday, the team battled Waxahachie Finley and lost 23-21 on a buzzer beater in what was the best game of the tournament.

Finley led 13-8 at halftime, but the girls came back from the break ready to play their hearts out and that is what they did. The score at the end of the third still had Finley ahead, but just 17-16.

The Lady Cats tied the game in the fourth quarter with three minutes to go. The crowd grew larger as the game became so intense. Each of the girls contributed to aggressive defense by stealing the ball and giving teammates opportunities to shoot.

With 10 seconds left, Finley had the ball at half court and threw up a shot that went in and ended the game.

The Lady Cats were ready to shake it off and get their heads straight to defeat Frank Seale. The girls had a repeat of the Finley game in the first half and went into halftime down 17-8.

After making some adjustments at halftime, the girls came back a different team when they stepped on the court in the third and fourth quarters.

At the end of the third it was 21-13, Frank Seale. The Lady Cats had a huge fourth quarter and scored 13 points to tie the game up at 26-26 and the Lady Cats were confident and excited.

With 30 seconds left, Frank Seale had the ball at half court, and scored like Finley. They got the ball back just a few seconds later after a turnover to go up by four.

The Lady Cats had 10 seconds to make something happen. Unfortunately they fell short, 26-30. The B team was led in points throughout the tournament by Kelly Dunn with 13, Cora Brooks and Bryanna Mendez-Flowers each had 10. Grace Hackney led the team in defense with steals.

The Lady Cats finished the tournament with fourth place. We are so proud of how the girls played this weekend. Each of them learned so much from this tournament and it was a great way to start the season.
