Los Muertos Bailan: A Dia De Los Muertos Celebration is approaching and the City of Edinburg invites the community to this annual event scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28 from 6 - 11 p.m. The free event is happening in the Courtyard at Edinburg City Hall, located at 415 W. University Drive.
The event is a celebration of the Day of the Dead offering various fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. It will showcase the community’s artistic, musical, and dancing talents, as well as other forms of expression. There will be a food court, beer tent and artwork available for purchase.
One of the evening’s main events is the Catrin/Catrina contest for both children and adults with prizes for the winners in both categories. There will also be face painting, poetry, photo ops, live theater, Mexican and local artisans, artists and much more. As part of the entertainment, Dr. David Bowles will read some stories from his latest book, Ghost Stories from the Rio Grande Valley, in the historic Edinburg Municipal Auditorium.
The Dirty Birdies will be the featured band for the evening. Popular amongst all age groups, the band has established itself as a festival favorite. Band members, Julian David Ramirez, Nestor Lopez, Raziel Cano, and Armando Lopez Ibarra, makeup this versatile band. They perform upbeat dance music that is sure to make any skeleton dance.
The featured artist this for this year’s Dia De Los Muertos Celebration is Edinburg native, Ruben Rios. His art exhibit titled “The Only Way to Stop” will be on display throughout the night. More than 10 other local artists will also showcase their work. So, mark your calendars for this free, fun and family friendly event.
