MIDLOTHIAN — Each year the Midlothian Police Department honors members of its staff that prove imperative to the day-to-day operations. While all those officers, Telecommunicators, civilians and staffers who comprise the department are everyday heroes in his or her own right, the annual "After the Holidays" party is not a participation event.

According to Midlothian Police Capt. John D. Spann, the event is scheduled following the traditional holiday season to ensure the largest turnout possible, as there should be less of an off-the-clock conflict. This year, well over 120 Midlothian Police employees and their families were on hand as Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith presented the four distinguished awards: Officer of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Dispatcher of the Year and Civilian of the Year.

Spann said, "It was a great night thanks to the help of the 'Leadership Committee,' Officer Ruben Pereida and the staff at the Midlothian Conference Center.
