I am reading A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron, in anticipation of the movie by the same name. This delightful book is written from a dog’s perspective, a canine that believes his purpose is to bring laughter and love into the lives of humans. However, in this story, the dog does not die, not permanently, anyway. Each time the dog slips into the afterlife, he is reborn, to grow and learn and love, again and again. It is like the library, remade again and again by new books, or the re-discovery of old books, bringing laughter, love, and awareness into the lives of library users.
