WAXAHACHIE — A Lancaster resident was indicted on the charge of aggravated robbery as one of 53 indictments handed down by the Ellis County Grand Jury on April 26.

Alejandro Franco, 19, was booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center on Jan. 26 in connection with a violent robbery in Midlothian that injured two people.

According to the indictment, Franco allegedly on Dec. 15, 2016, while in the process of committing theft of property, caused bodily injury to one of the victims by hitting him in the head. Franco allegedly used a firearm in the commission of the offense.

“The victim was afraid of retaliation [because he] knew Franco,” Midlothian Police Capt. John Spann said in a Feb. 4 Daily Light article. “Mr. Franco and three other Hispanic males showed up at the victim’s house. The victim went out into the car with them. There was some discussion at that time and they pulled guns on him and took his cell phone and wallet that was on his person.”

Spann stated that the victim told police he thought Franco was coming over to the residence to pick him up by himself. However, the victim said he did not expect the other three to be in the vehicle or for the driver to have an AR-15-styled weapon. He also noted the other people in the car had pistols.

“When they went back into the house, the victim’s father kind of at first through it was some type of a joke. The other suspects had on hoodies and had their faces covered up. He (Franco) told them to get on the ground,” said Spann previously “He (the father) didn’t think that they were serious and then one of them hit him in the head with a pistol. It cut his head open and made him lay on the ground.”

Spann said the items that were reported as stolen from the victim included $6 in cash and a Samsung Galaxy Phone. After the suspects had left the residence, the victim and his father called the police.

Spann said medical personnel checked out the victim after he had reported that he was hit on the side of the head but could not find any type of injury. The father sustained a cut to his head but refused medical treatment.

Franco was later arrested and booked into the Dallas County Jail on a separate law enforcement agency’s warrant for aggravated robbery. A Midlothian Police Department Investigator interviewed Franco in Jail on Dec. 19.

Spann said Franco was not cooperative during the questioning and would not identify the other individuals involved. Franco was transferred to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie and booked into the jail at 11:07 p.m. on Jan. 26.

According to online records from the detention center as of Monday, May 1 at noon, Franco remained in custody with a bond totaling $100,000.
