David LaRue passed away peacefully May 8, 2017, at his home. He was the son of Elvis and Linnie (Brown) LaRue and was born September 11, 1939, in Dallas County, Texas. He was a 1959 graduate of Midlothian High School.

On July 8, 1960, David and Gwen Curts were married in Midlothian. They would have celebrated their 57th anniversary in July. David was preceded in death by his parents, Elvis and Linnie LaRue and brother, Lavon LaRue. David retired from General Motors, Arlington, TX, in 1995 after thirty years of employment. Following retirement, he kept in touch with former co-workers and retirees and enjoyed maintaining those friendships over the years. In 1985 David became a Master Mason and a member of Midlothian Masonic Lodge No. 584 A.F. & A.M. He was a founding member of the Cowboy Church of Ellis County. As a member of the original Cowboy Church Band, he played the fiddle for several years. David was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was a dedicated family man and always enjoyed time spent with his family and many friends. He will be missed by all. Survivors include his loving wife, Gwen, sons, Alan and wife, Gina, Todd and wife, Janice and Jeff Larue, grandchildren, Heather McElhaney and husband, Chad, Katy Metcalfe and husband, Scott, Mallory LaRue, Meredith Hahn and husband, Jameson, Justin Cockrum, Jeremy Cockrum and Lash LaRue, great-grandchildren, Makayla, Kyler, Kyndal and Hunter McElhaney, Allyson, Cayden and Jarrod Metcalfe, Mason Cockrum and Davis Hahn, sisters, Danna Hayes and Marsha Bownds and husband, Danny and four nieces and a nephew. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Midlothian Funeral Home and services will be at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
