MIDLOTHIAN — The Creative Quilters Guild of Ellis County has unraveled its plans to host a quilt show this weekend, where the group will present intricate quilt art stitched by members of this very community.
The show is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15 at the Midlothian Conference Center.
Continuing its mission of promoting quilting, preserving its history and offering inspiration through education and community service, the "Butterfly Wings and Things" quilting show will feature vendors, a boutique, door prizes, quilt appraisals, quilting demonstrations, a quilt raffle and a silent auction. The auction will benefit The Golden Circle Activity Center, a senior citizen center in Ennis.
Judy Townes, head of hospitality and publicity for The Creative Quilters Guild of Ellis County, said this year’s event is expecting a good turnout — and for good reason.
“For one thing, it’s an amazing amount of creativity that occurs when you say to someone, ‘You can enter a quilt in our show,’” said Townes. “These quilters are just as much artists as are those who paint, carve, and other stuff like that. The work we receive is just unbelievable.”
The community event will take place Friday, July 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is open to all who please. Though the deadline to register a quilt in the show has already passed, Townes still encourages anyone who enjoys quilting to attend.
The show will be held at the Midlothian Conference Center, located at 1 Community Circle. Admissions for a one-day pass are $8, while a two-day pass is $10. Parking is free.
