WAXAHACHIE — An Ellis County Grand Jury indicted Michael Wayne Becker, 36, on the charge of aggravated robbery.

The indictment came down May 10 after Midlothian Police arrested the Ferris resident on Dec. 12, 2016.

According to the indictment, Becker allegedly, while in the course of committing theft of property, threatened the victim by placing him in fear of imminent bodily injury or death. During the commission of the offense, Becker allegedly exhibited or used a firearm.

“We got a call of a vehicle theft in progress. The owner of the vehicle phoned in and said his car had been stolen and he knew the person who stole it. Officers got there and talked with him. He stated it was a friend of his that he works with,” Midlothian Police Department Capt. John Spann said. “They had been working on cars all day and had been drinking. They ran out of gas on Mount Zion Road and [the victim] had somebody come pick them up to go get gas.”

Spann continued that when the victim got back to the vehicle, Becker was gone. So he filled up the car with gas and then went searching for Becker. He then spotted Becker farther down Mount Zion Road.

“At that time, Mr. Becker pointed a gun at him and told him to get out of the car, which he did. Then he called us,” Spann said. “Officers responded to the call and observed the vehicle that was stolen. They encountered Mr. Becker and the vehicle just up the road in the 2000 block of Mount Zion Road. He was sitting on the side of the road.”

Spann stated that Sgt. Jesse Baltazar approached Becker and made the arrested. Officers found a handgun matching the description given by the victim. Officer Jacob Rittimann assisted Baltazar on the call. The vehicle theft took place on Mount Zion Road near the Spring Creek Subdivision.

Spann added that, in addition to alcohol, officers later found out the victim and Becker had smoked marijuana that day as well.

Online records from the Wayne McCollum Detention Center show Becker no longer listed as an inmate at the facility.

According to documents from the Ellis County District Clerk’s Office Becker’s arraignment is set for 9 a.m. on June 6 in the 40th Judicial District Court. Records state that Janet Traylor has been appointed as Becker’s attorney.
