Margaret Corinne (Connie) Langston Shirley of Midlothian, TX passed away peacefully on August 15, 2017, after a lengthy, heroic battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on September 7, 1933, to Curtis and Margaret Langston. Connie graduated from Pecan Gap High School in 1952, and later met and married Hoyle Wayne Shirley on January 14, 1955. She worked at AT&T in Austin to help put her husband through school at UT. Later, they settled in Mesquite, TX and after several miscarriages together adopted 2 children-Thomas Wayne Shirley and Laura Jean Shirley. After staying home for several years with the children, Connie decided to go back to school at East Texas State University and complete her teaching degree. The family moved to Midlothian in the summer of 1979. Connie lovingly taught 3rd grade at Ferris Elementary for 6 years. Then she opened up her own craft store, Connie’s Craft Corner on the town square in Lancaster, TX and sold handmade crafts for several years. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, crocheting, painting, playing the piano, assembling puzzles and a multitude of other hobbies. Connie was an avid reader of Great Britain Royal history. She even traveled alone one summer to England and took a 3- week tour of the country. She had many other traveling adventures with her husband, including Russia, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Alaska, and a host of other continental destinations. She especially enjoyed taking each of her grandchildren on separate Dan Dipert Grandparent/Grandchild tours throughout the years. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She spent many years babysitting and loving on them. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hoyle Shirley, children, Thomas Shirley and Laura Stephens and husband, Tracey, grandchildren, Emilee, Cameron Stephens and wife, Candace, Natalie and Summer Stephens, Brandon Shirley, brothers Jack and Jim Langston and numerous nieces and nephews. Although faced with many health issues throughout her life, Connie never complained and was a fighter until the end. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
