WAXAHACHIE — An Ellis County jury found a 25-year-old Arlington woman guilty on two counts of sexual indecency with a young child and sentenced her to five years in prison on Wednesday.
Miranda Renea Kelso, of Arlington, will serve two years in jail on the charge of indecency with a child by exposure and three years for indecency with a child by contact after being sentenced in the 40th District Court of Ellis County on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The sentences will run consecutively. Judge Bob Carroll presided over the case.
According to court records provided by the Ellis County and District Attorney's Office, Kelso videotaped herself, on multiple occasions, masturbating while a child under the age of five was present. During one video, Kelso caused the child to "touch her breast," while in another she can be "seen masturbating while the child is inches from her."
A press release issued by ECDA Patrick Wilson states the defense team labeled Kelso as a victim of domestic violence and said she was "coerced into victimizing the child and videotaping the offenses." However, the ECDA release notes evidence at the trial showed that Kelso was "a practitioner of Sado masochistic sexual practices and that her alleged abuser was nowhere near the scene of her crime."
“I want to thank the jurors for rejecting the outrageous and offensive claim put forth by the defense in this case," Wilson said. "To claim domestic violence as a shield against child molestation is disrespectful to the real victim in this case and to all victims of domestic violence."
Wilson also thanked his prosecutors, Ellis County Assistant County and District Attorneys, Lindy Beaty and Habon Mohamed, as well as the investigators for their work in the "difficult case."
"I also want to give special recognition to Investigator Elizabeth Gladwell of the Waxahachie Police Department," Wilson added. "She did a great job with a tough case. The citizens of Ellis County should be proud to know that she is serving them.”
