MIDLOTHIAN — Sweeps of Lancaster and Mansfield Summit has the Midlothian Lady Panther volleyball team holding the fate to its district championship aspirations.

Midlothian defeated Lancaster on Friday (25-20, 25-9, 25-15) and, most recently, Mansfield Summit in Midlothian on Tuesday (25-14, 25-17, 25-22).

With the two wins, the Lady Panthers improved to 25-11 on the season, 8-2 in District 10-5A, and have won four straight matches after being swept by Lake Ridge on Sept. 26.

Midlothian still sits one match back of district-leading (31-4, 9-1) Red Oak and (30-8, 9-1) Mansfield Lake Ridge with four regular-season matches to play. The ladies will close out the season on the road against (23-14, 6-4) Waxahachie on Friday then return home against Mansfield Legacy (Oct. 17) and Lake Ridge (Oct. 20) before closing out the district slate Oct. 24 at Mansfield Timberview.

LANCASTER

Sydney Little fired home 19 kills in the sweep of the Lancaster Lady Tigers and added 11 more on Tuesday to run her season total to 466. Capri Davis, of Mansfield Lake Ridge, leads the district with 488 kills. However, Little sits atop the district hitting-percentage leaderboard with a .357 mark on the season.

Samantha Rodgers also had 12 kills on 15 attempts for an astounding .733 hitting percentage.

Five Lady Panthers recorded aces in the sweep, led by two each from Tara Groden and Kamryn Owen. Owen also recorded 35 assists.

Aliyah Muhammad had three of the Lady Panthers' four blocks. Kelly Buchanan added 15 digs, while Aubrey Walton and Anna Groden had nine, each.

SUMMIT

Aubrey Walton led the Lady Panthers with 12 kills on 26 attempts (.423 hitting percentage), while Little added 11 on 32 swings and Rodgers recorded nine in Tuesday's three-set win.

Buchanan had a team-high three aces and 14 digs to bring her two-match total to 29. Little added 12 digs and Walton recorded 11.

Little and Buchanan sit in fourth and fifth on the district digs leaderboard with 408 and 377, respectively.

Owen also notched 34 more assists. The senior leads all of District 10-5A with 975 assists on the season with Waxahachie's Taylor Stoops sitting in a distant second (764).

UP NEXT

Midlothian will travel south on US Highway 287 for a rivalry match against Waxahachie. The first serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday at George W. Solis Gymnasium located on the Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy campus.

According to MaxPreps.com, Waxahachie leads the head-to-head matchup 13-7 since 2004. The five-set win over the Lady Indians on Sept. 19 was the first match win for the Lady Panthers over the rival since Sept. 16, 2004.
