WAXAHACHIE — The Waxahachie Daily Light and Midlothian Mirror excitedly welcomed a new member to their editorial team Monday. Ashley Ford, most recently with Fox 15 in Abilene and Fox News First in San Angelo, will serve as the new communities reporter.
She fills the void left by the departure of Chelsea Groomer, who recently accepted a job with the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce.
Ford graduated from Tarleton State University in Stephenville last May. While there, she led an award-winning Texan News Service staff as the editor-in-chief during her senior year where she oversaw the production of monthly newspapers and television coverage of local events. She also interned at the Stephenville Empire-Tribune, a sister newspaper of the Daily Light and Mirror.
During her time in Abilene and San Angelo, Ford served as the digital content producer, which involved writing the majority of the content published on the TV stations' websites, updating the social media pages with breaking news and delivering news on camera.
Scott Brooks, Daily Light and Midlothian Mirror publisher, said "Not only are we are pleased to have Ashley join our team, we are genuinely excited about bringing you, our readers, Ashley's quality work."
"The extraordinary experience and knowledge Ashley has acquired these past few years will enable her to contribute right away," he added. "Despite the continual change and transition occurring in the world of delivering news and content, one thing that never changes is the desire for exceptional talent - talent we know you'll find in Ashley."
Travis Smith, the Daily Light and Midlothian Mirror managing editor, echoed Brooks and noted he has seen Ford's immense talent firsthand while following along with stories produced by TNS and the Empire-Tribune.
"Ashley brings a real bulldog mentality to our team that any newspaper editor would love to have onboard," Smith said. "Her experience covering hard news, as well as community features, combined with her talents in engaging readers through written word, social media and video made her an ideal fit for our newsroom. We are excited about what she will produce for our readers in Ellis County."
