MIDLOTHIAN — Red Oak might have scored first, but it was the Midlothian Panthers and Landry Songer who found paydirt most often.

Songer ran for over 230 yards with five rushing touchdowns to help defeat the visiting Red Oak Hawks 34-20.

A pair of Carson Forbes touchdowns runs began and ended the first-half scoring Friday night at Midlothian ISD Multipurpose Stadium. The senior quarterback first scampered in from 10 yards out with 10:45 to play in the first quarter before crossing the goal line again, this time from two yards, with under five minutes remaining on the first-half clock.

Between those two scores, though, the Panther offense led by Songer found the end zone three times.

Songer carried the football four times during a seven-play drive after the first Forbes touchdown. He capped the drive with a 12-yard touchdown run. The senior tailback then scored from 16 and 34 yards early in the second quarter to help build a 21-7 Panther lead. His third score of the first half came with 9:18 to play.

Songer scored two more times — from 19 and 22 yards out — in the second half to push Midlothian ahead 34-13,

Hunter Smith capped the scoring when he hauled in a 73-yard pass from Forbes with 6:00 to play in the game. Midlothian moved to 4-6 on the season and 2-4 in District 10-5A with the 34-20 win. Red Oak fell to 2-7 on the year and 0-6 in district action.

The Panthers outgained the Hawks 440 yards to 323 and picked 14 more first downs (25-11).

Sogner carried the football 29 times for 231 yards and a season-high five touchdowns on a night when the Panthers ran for 425 yards as a team.

Nolan Samek rushed eight times for 59 yards, while Gerardo Gonzales ran three times for 44 yards and Tate Corbin added 10 carries for 32 yards. Corbin also finished 1-of-3 through the air for 15 yards.

CJ Palmer paced the Red Oak offense with 127 yards on 12 carries, but it was Forbes who scored twice on his five totes for 30 yards. Dantrail Richardson also picked up 76 yards on seven carries, while Forbes completed 3-of-his-5 passes for 83 yards. Hunter Smith caught two of those passes for 82 yards and a score.

Red Oak closes out its season at Billy Goodloe Stadium against Mansfield Legacy, while Midlothian travels to Lancaster.
