With their win over previously top-ranked Mansfield Timberview last Friday, the Waxahachie Runnin' Indians officially returned atop the Class 5A perch Monday.
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches released its rankings for the week of Jan. 15 and eight Ellis County teams cracked the top-25 polls of their respective classifications.
The Waxahachie Runnin' Indians, who improved to 18-4 on the season and remain undefeated in District 10-5A, are joined in the 5A top-25 by district foes No. 2 (20-4) Timberview, No. 11 (18-7) Midlothian and No. 14 (14-9) Lancaster.
The Runnin' Indians are also ranked No. 7 nationally in the MaxPreps computer poll based on the strength of schedule.
In the 4A boys poll, (21-6) Midlothian Heritage checked in at No. 11, and Waxahachie Life enters the week as the 14th-ranked 4A team with a 24-6 mark.
The ladies of Midlothian Heritage enter the week at No. 18 in the girls 4A poll.
The Jaguar girls are joined by Ovilla Christian as the only two female teams ranked in the top-25 of any TABC poll. The Lady Eagles are No. 3 in the TABC 2A girls private school poll.
Avalon (15-2 on the season) and Milford made their first appearances on the TABC 1A boys poll this year, checking in at No. 23 and No. 24 respectively.
