A pair of District 8-4A wins last week has the Midlothian Heritage girls' soccer team sitting third in the latest state rankings.
The Jaguars outscored district rival Alvarado and Venus by a combined 9-0 in the two matches to improve their season record to 15-3-1 and remain perfect (3-0) in the district. The ladies have now outscored their opposition a staggering 69-11 this season. The showing has the Jaguars ranked third in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 4A poll.
Heritage began last week with a 6-0 win Tuesday against Alvarado, during which Megan McCarthy and Shylar Ray combined for the clean sheet in goal.
Heritage head girls' soccer coach Gerald Slovacek said it was a "physical match that was dominated in the midfield" by the Jaguars.
Katie Greer and Grace Hackney led the way with two goals, each, and Greer added a team-high three assists. The senior forward scored another goal Friday against Venus to run her season total up to 14 goals in 17 matches this season.
Logan Ybarra (1 goal), Grayce Davis (2 assists), and Allie Beller (1 goal) also contributed to the win Tuesday.
On Friday, the Jaguars pulled out a 3-0 win against what Slovacek described as a "feisty" Venus side. He added the Lady Bulldogs "packed the defensive end and made it a challenge' for the Jaguars to find scoring opportunities.
Greer, Makenlee Mabra and Kylar Kenter did, however, manage to find the back of the next for the Jaguars in the win. Davis and Kenter both added assists. Davis, a junior midfielder, now leads the Jaguars with nine assists on the season.
The clean sheet in goal was the 12th for McCarthy this season.
Heritage returns to action at 6 p.m. Friday against Life Waxahachie at Midlothian ISD Multipurpose Stadium.
