Joe Bob Underwood, 69, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 in Bardwell, Texas.

Joe Bob was born in Waxahachie, Texas on November 6, 1948 to Robert E. and Bettie Joe (Hargus) Underwood. He grew up in Bardwell and graduated from Ennis High School in 1967. On January 25, 1980 he married Linda Gail Peugh and they made their home in Bardwell. He served his country proudly in the United States Army.

He served the citizens of Ellis County for many years as a Deputy for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and worked for Cedar Valley College Police Department. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge of Bardwell. He enjoyed fishing. He was quite a history buff. He also enjoyed working with cattle and farming. His family was the joy of his life.

He is survived by a son, Shawn McNeely; daughters: Brooke Grmela, Charice Hankins and Lisa Hobbs; grandchildren: Eve Forner, Emily Forner, Ella Forner, Elizabeth Forner, Samuel Forner, Derick Pena, Garrett Hobbs and Alyssa McNeely; great-grandchildren: Tori , Easton, Tessa, Grace and Henry along with a host of extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Linda Underwood, son, Scott Hankins, two brothers; Jim Edd Underwood and Mark Underwood and step-father, J.T. Austin.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Interment will follow in Elm Branch Cemetery of Bardwell under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
