For the second time this season, Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball players Suzanny Figueiredo, Celi Bruce, and Sophia Ivy swept the Sooner Athletic Conference player of the week awards.
The trio first achieved the feat for the week of Sept. 3-9 and it marks the third time on the year that the Lady Lions have swept the weekly awards.
Figueiredo was named the SAC Attacker of the Week, which has been won by a SAGU outside hitter in four of the five weeks awarded — twice to Figueiredo and twice to Kali Shaw.
Bruce received the nod as the SAC Defender of the Week, her third, and Sophia Ivy won her fourth SAC Setter of the Week award.
For Ivy, the award is the seventh award of her career — and probably won’t be her last.
She is currently ranked third nationally with 11.220 assists per set and 22nd with 606 assists on the year. She is 0.1 assists per set away from second and 0.7 away from taking the top spot in the nation. Over the weekend she recorded 49 assists, five digs, two kills and two blocks against John Brown University on Saturday.
Bruce was awarded conference defender of the week for the fifth time while a member of the SAGU Lady Lions volleyball team.
The 5-foot-6 senior libero from Waxahachie currently has 299 digs on the season, which ranks her 18th in the nation with 5.54 digs per set — and only 0.4 away from sitting inside the top-10.
Bruce had 19 digs during the against JBU on Saturday and added five assists.
Figueiredo, an outside hitter, notched her second conference award after a stellar match against John Brown University where she recorded 19 kills in only four sets with just six errors. She also added an impressive 17 digs.
Figueiredo has 196 kills on the season, ranking 37th in the nation with 3.63 kills per set and 65 nationally for total kills.

Sophia Ivy and Celi Bruce combined for 54 assists — Ivy with 49 and Bruce with five to go along with her 19 digs.
After the perfect 3-0, which included wins over JBU and Texas Wesleyan paired with a forfeit by Bacone College (Okla), head volleyball coach Hank Moore said, “We had some great defense from our front row. Both of our middles, Maddie Hartline and Jancee Akers are now in the top-10 in the conference in blocks. Celi had a great week as well. She is leading the conference in digs and closing in on the all-time digs record. Suzanny had a huge week, averaging double-digits in kills and in digs and Kali Shaw averaged a double-double, as well. Setter Sophia Ivy has found herself, moving to number 3 in the NAIA in assists.”
He added, “We are close and improving. We have a long way to go, but these kids are some the hardest working kids I have ever coached. We have the potential to be pretty good. We are very proud of where we are right now, but know we still have a lot of improving to do.”
The Lady Lions are back in action this weekend as they travel to the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma and Mid-America Christian University.
The game against USAO is at 7 p.m. Friday. The Lady Lions then play MACU at 1 pm. Saturday.
