Things to do and places to go in Ellis County this weekend of Dec. 13-15:

Bethlehem Revisited

Travel back to old world Bethlehem at the time of Christ’s birth from 6-9 p.m. Friday–Sunday Dec. 13-15 at 402 N. College Street behind Central Presbyterian Church. Admission is free though donations are gladly accepted.

On your journey to the site of the Nativity, you will meet innkeepers, merchants, craftsmen, tradesmen, clergy, and many other citizens as they portray daily life in the City of Bethlehem, complete with sheep, camels, and donkeys. You can also visit Herod’s Court and await the nightly parade of the three kings bringing their treasures to Bethlehem’s newest citizen.

On display inside the Central Presbyterian Church is “The Supper Quilt” by Donald E. Locke, D.D.S. There is also a souvenir booth with Bethlehem Revisited shirts, stuffed camels and sheep and more. Hot chocolate and cider is served each evening with donations appreciated.

Candlelight Tour of Homes

Get into the holiday spirit by strolling the glimmering streets of Waxahachie. Six unique homes, spanning from the Victorian era to the 21st Century, will don their holiday finery from 2-8 p.m. Saturday–Sunday, Dec. 14-15 the Kollie, Pickard, Roberts and Gullo homes will be on display at 1208 E. Marvin, 208 N. Grand, 802 Brown and 207 Brown, respectively.

Tinsel and Treats

Waxahachie Global High School will host its second annual Tinsel and Treats from 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at 600 W. 2nd Street in Waxahachie.

The event will feature a raffle and silent auction with beautifully decorated, themed Christmas trees. Guests can also expect to peruse arts and crafts booths, have any purchase available for wrapping at the gift wrapping station, take pictures with Santa, enjoy campus tours, baked treats, hot beverages and a supervised “fun center” for children. Shackelford Elementary Garage Sale

Students of Shackelford Elementary will host a garage sale from 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at First Baptist Church in Waxahachie. The sale will go to help the Waxahachie Fire Department’s annual Toys for Kids Christmas Toy Drive. Country Christmas Music Concert

Rockett Christian Church will host a country Christmas music concert beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at 135 Maple Leaf Drive (one block east of Rockett Cafe) in Rockett.

Friday Book Club

The Friday Book Club will meet in the home of Claire Crabb at 10 a.m. Dec. 13. Sharon Lucky will be reviewing “Doc” by Mary Doria Russell.

5k Santa Run

The Waxahachie Family YMCA will host a 5k Santa Run from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. with the race starting at 10 a.m. The route will take runners and walkers, dressed in full santa suits, through historic downtown Waxahachie. Italy Christmas Festival

The city of Italy will host its annual Christmas Festival and Parade from 7 a.m.–2 p.m. Dec. 14. The parade check-in and line up will be from 8:30-9:45 a.m. at Italy High School on the corner of College and Park Streets. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and go down Main Street. From 11 a.m.–2 p.m. there will be entertainment and prize drawings at the pavilion.

Goldwing Riders Toy Drive

The Honda Goldwing Riders GWRRA Chapter W-2 will host its annual Christmas Toy Drive from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Citizens National Bank in uptown Waxahachie. Cash donations and unwrapped toys for children and teens will be greatly appreciated!

The annual drive benefits the children served by CASA (Court Assisted Special Advocates) of Ellis County, P.O. Box 2646, Waxahachie, TX 75168. Make checks payable to “CASA of Ellis County” with memo line “W-2 Toy Drive.” All donations are tax deductible.

Theatre Rocks auditions

Theatre Rocks will host auditions for “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling and directed by Bill Rhoten from 10 a.m.–noon Saturday, Dec. 14 at Theatre Rocks, 505 NW. Main Street in Ennis. Italy ISD FFA Chili Cook-Off

The Italy ISD Future Farmers of America Chapter will host a chili cook-off at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Italy downtown pavilion to help support FFA students. Registration costs $30. Sip N’ Stroll

The Waxahachie Downtown Merchants Association will host a Sip N’ Stroll from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 in historic downtown Waxahachie. Shop for the holidays while sampling wines at 12 participating downtown merchants. Tickets cost $10 and includes a souvenir wine glass. The event is limited to 500 participants, who must be 21 or older and have a valid driver’s license to participate.

Ennis Public Theatre auditions

The Ennis Public Theatre will host auditions for “Clue the Musical” by Peter DePietro with music by Galen Blum (and based on the classic board game) from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Ennis Public Theatre, 2705 N. Kaufman in Ennis.

Rehearsals will begin Jan. 6, 2014 and show dates are Feb. 7-9, 13-16, 21-23. The theatre is seeking five male and three female actors, one of which must be able to sing 16 bars. A pianist will be provided. For more info, call 972-878-7529.
