Old Fashioned Singing returns Nov. 1-2
Waxahachie’s Old Fashioned Singing Project will end its 2013 season with the production of “Heaven’s Front Porch” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at the Chautauqua Auditorium, with a second performance scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Tickets will be available at the door for both performances.
This project is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation and enjoyment of brush-arbor music, especially as it occurred in the southern United States in the first half of the 20th Century.
As always, Ellis County residents may purchase tickets for $12 ($3 off the regular ticket price). Ticket purchases and tax-deductible contributions may be transacted online at the website.

Taste of Autumn Festival at Waxahachie Farmers Market
The Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market will host its Taste of Autumn Festival from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at 410 South Rogers Street.
The market sellers, Ellis County Master Gardeners and the Ellis County Extension Service will be preparing samples using pumpkins, winter vegetables and greens. Kids can visit the Ellis County Master Gardener’s booth for some fun fall crafts with the “Foliage Friends.” Handouts include recipes, tips on healthy eating, and information on preserving your harvest.
The food truck and the pizza oven will be there. In addition to produce, shoppers can find pastries, longhorn beef, gourmet food blends, jellies, jams, relishes, local honey, handmade crafts, hand-crafted soaps, pottery and more.
Come out and enjoy some great food, a wonderful selection of fresh produce, cool fall weather and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Finish Strong with a Splash
Movement Toward a Future invites runners and walkers to its first ever Finish Strong with a Splash 5k and 1k Color Fun Run starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at the MISD Multi-Purpose Stadium , 1800 S. 14th Street in Midlothian. The event sponsored by Brookshire’s will benefit Movement Toward a Future, which partners local mentors with at-risk middle school and high school students to achieve academic success.
Backyard Boutique Sale
Just in time for the holidays, the Waxahachie Mothers Club invites everyone to come shop at its Backyard Boutique Sale from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at 607 Sycamore Street in Waxahachie.
Browse through clothing, knick-knacks, household items and lots of miscellaneous finds. Proceeds will benefit the Waxahachie Mothers Club scholarship fund for 2014 graduating high school seniors. For more information, contact Nancy O’Teter at 972-723-5135.
Big Time Pro Wrestling
Big Time Pro Wrestling will present Ellis County Smack Down on Saturday, Nov. 2. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the action starts at 6 p.m. Purchase your tickets at the door. The Smack Down will feature four big live matches with the main event pairing Nobi Bryant against Scott Putski for the Texas Heavyweight title. Don’t miss out on Cowboy Adam versus Mr. Wrestling #4, Joe Garcia versus Tejano Kid or Max Muscles versus Bull Dozer.
Bring the kids and have some fun, Ellis County Smack Down is a family-friendly venue with no alcohol or profanity allowed and no smoking inside the event center. Free lighted parking is available with a snack bar, air conditioning and heating inside.

Ellis County Opry presents
The Ellis County Opry will present a program of country, western and gospel music starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Optimist Youth Center, 219 Patrick Street in Waxahachie.
Guest artists joining the Opry band will include Weldon Johnson, Kylie Sisson, Joy Parish and John Herford. Refreshments will be available and a 50-50 jackpot door prize drawing will conclude the evening.
