The Ellis County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is preparing to host its second annual Wish Upon A Paw event, which is set to take place from 6-11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Midlothian Conference Center.
As employees ready themselves for the event, Executive Director Amy Fincher said she is looking forward to a more laid-back setting this year.
“This year we have chosen to go with a more laid-back atmosphere,” Fincher said. “It’s going to feature a western theme with a buffet style meal. We will also provide music by way of a band or DJ, either way, it is going to be a lot of fun.”
She said each year they invite an honorary guest who has a heart for animals. This year’s guest will be Gloria Campos, the WFAA Channel 8 news anchor.
In addition to the food and entertainment, the event will also feature a silent and live auction. Fincher said she is thrilled about the items that will be up for bid this year.
“We have worked really hard on this year’s event,” she said. “We really wanted some auction items that would catch people’s attention and spur on the fundraising.”
Some of those items include bed and breakfast packages, original Dallas Morning Newspapers of the John F. Kennedy assassination (in commemoration of the 50 year anniversary), musical instruments (such a Kidd Rock guitar), event packages to see the Dallas Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks as well as the Texas Rangers (all of these come with signed memorabilia), night time airplane rides, golf packages and more.
All proceeds from the auction will go directly to the shelter. Individual tickets are available for the event for $30, and can be purchased at the ECSPCA located at 2570 Farm-to-Market Road 878. For more information about Wish Upon A Paw or the ECSPCA, call 972-935-0756.
