Southern Star Christmas
The Southern Star Christmas Celebration has been set from noon-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at Heritage Park. This years theme is “All Aboard The Polar Express.” The event is a joint effort between several civic organizations including: City of Midlothian, Midlothian Downtown Business Association, Midlothian Chamber of Commerce, Manna House and the Midlothian Rotary Club.The celebration will consist of fun-filled activities in downtown Midlothian such as a vendor fair, musical entertainment by Electric Cactus, pictures with Santa, Christmas tree lighting, a multi-denominational worship service and the lighted Christmas parade. MidTowne Home Tour
The MidTowne Christmas Home Tour benefiting Mission Midlothian is set to begin the weekend of Dec. 7 and 14. Tours will begin at 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 and 14; 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 and 15. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. They can be purchased at the door of each home or in advance at Manna House and Mission Midlothian. The six homes featured on this year's tour are Fionrenza, McAda, Brumbeloe/Johnson, Wescott, Gersch and Morris . Ellis County Toy Run
The Gryphons Motorcycle Club will host the 29th annual Ellis County Toy Run from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. Thousands of motorcyclists will parade through Midlothian, Waxahachie and Ennis to deliver new toys to Ellis County children in need this Christmas season.
The parade will line up at about 9 a.m. along 8th Street in downtown Midlothian and set off at 11 a.m. sharp. Donuts and coffee will be provided by Midlothian Donuts, Busy Bee Bakery and Caroline’s Cafe.
Entry to ride in the motorcycle parade costs $5 per person and the donation of one new toy for ages 3-13. Gryphons Motorcycle Club will also accept donations of canned food.
The parade will follow the same route as previous years, along Interstate 287 from Midlothian, through Waxahachie to Ennis and ending at Sokol Hall, 2622 E. Highway 34.
Baraja de Oro toy drive
The Ellis County Hispanic Organization will host its 2013 Christmas Toy Drive from 6-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at the National Guard Armory, 628 N. Grand Ave. in Waxahachie.
The event will feature a live performance by local, award-winning conjunto band Baraja de Oro, a family fun zone with a bounce house and pictures with Santa, door prizes and music by DJ Puro Party Productions.
Admission costs $10 per person with children 10 and under free, or the donation of a $10 unwrapped toy to benefit Toys for Tots.
The evening will also include a menudo contest with the first place winner receiving a trophy and $100 and second place receiving a trophy. Registration costs $25 and contestants must be entered by Sunday, Nov. 24. To register, contact Cindy at 972-935-3684 or Linda at 469-387-0186.
Operation Christmas Card
Operation Christmas Card, a community event that spans more than 40 years, is under way.
A fundraiser for the Midlothian Cemetery Association, Operation Christmas Card helps to finance upkeep and care of the city’s cemetery.
The association would like to receive donations by Friday, Dec. 20, so the donors’ names can be posted in the Christmas week edition of the Midlothian Mirror.

Paws for Reflection
To help spread the word about our veteran services, the Ranch will be hosting a Boots of Honor Open House from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec.12. Come enjoy our holiday decorations as you learn more about the services we offer for veterans and their families.
Santa at the Ranch for Families with Special Needs is from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Bring the family to enjoy an afternoon of crafts, horse rides, and a hay ride on the nature trail. Meet the Ranch animals dressed in their holiday finest. Listen in as your child whispers holiday wishes to Santa. We will have special appearances by local community groups, including the Midlothian Fire Department. Remember your camera for pictures with Santa. This event is free although donations are welcomed.
Holiday Trash Pick-up
Republic Services, a trash and recycling company, takes three holidays off each year - Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day. This will effect one trash day and two recycling days this holiday season. Trash pick-up service will not be available on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013 - please hold your trash until your next regular pick-up day on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013. There will be no recycling pick-up service on Dec. 25, 2013 and Jan. 1, 2014. The alternate days will be Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 and Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014.
