The Midlothian High School Scholarship Night is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

More than 50 of our graduates will receive scholarships from local and national sponsors.

The counseling staff at the high school cordially invites the public to attend the event that recognizes our high school seniors who have earned scholarships to help them take their education to the next academic level.

While the winners of many local scholarships will be announced that evening for the first time, other students who have already received notification of scholarships they have won will also be honored on May 28.

If you know of a high school senior you wish to be recognized for a previously awarded scholarship, please notify the MHS Counseling office before May 15. Students must show proof of the scholarship being awarded for the 2013-2014 academic school year.

There are many awards and certificates of merit from various organizations given to Midlothian High School students, making our school one of the best high schools from which to graduate.

The Senior Scholarship Night focuses on students who are receiving funds to continue a post-secondary education.

For example, Henry Champion has received a Mountaineers’ Scholars Award and a Legacy Alumni scholarship to Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colo. Devyn Gravley received scholarship funds from Lamar University and Isai Jesse Leon will benefit close to $100,000 from winning multiple scholarships to attend Abilene Christian University.

“This is great night to honor the kids!” said Jenna Wilhoite,  college/career liaison at MHS. “The 50 scholarship winners already identified do not even include the many athletic scholarships our students have also earned.”

Dr. Al Hemmle, longtime principal of MHS, often encourages the faculty and students of our high school to “Go 2,” meaning always make the extra effort by going the extra mile. The Senior Scholarship Night is the perfect opportunity to honor those students who take his instructions to heart. Congratulations, Class of 2013!
