Emory Isaac Holland was born on Nov. 13, 1880 just across the county line in Dallas. The Pleasant Valley community was situated on the line, thus, in both Ellis and Dallas Counties. His dad, Isaac Walker Holland (1848-1938), had come to the area with a wagon train from Illinois. Once here, Isaac married firstly, Mary Ada Bandy (1856-1885), who became Emory's mother. Emory married Mary Katherine "Kate" Jones, and they had four children, Robert Emory, Bryant R., Samuel Isaac, and Frances. Unfortunately, little Samuel died in a house fire in January, 1921, when he was 3 years old. The family were members of the Church of Christ and Emory was a rural mail carrier out of Midlothian for about 40 years.
