We are still looking for students interested in attending General Education D preparation classes and English as a Second Language classes at Meadows Library. These classes are free and will be scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Navarro College will provide the instructor and materials, but the college will not initiate the classes until we have an enrollment of at least six students per class. The next orientation session to introduce the classes is scheduled for March 1, so we hope to have enough students to start classes here in Midlothian this spring.

Free American Sign Language classes begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings in the library. The certified instructor is Shelly Barrett, who has graciously taught several series of ASL for library patrons for several years. No reservations are required, but if you or someone you know is interested in attending these free classes, please call the library so Shelly will know how many students to expect.

The Meadows Book Club will have its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Feb. 11, when the library will host a book signing for local author Donna Mitchell. Mitchell has written a romance novel, Devonís Desire, which she will autograph and sell for $10 a book.

Mitchell is the mother of three Midlothian Independent School District students, grew up in a small town herself and was inspired to write about a young woman who breaks away from the norm, steps out of her comfort zone and finds adventure on her own. Read more about Devonís Desire on Mitchellís website www.devonsdesire.com.

Interestingly, Mitchell wrote her book, uploaded it to Createspace and shared it to Kindle Direct Publishing, so it will be available for purchase on Amazon in print and electronic form. Self-publishing is a growing industry and Mitchell will address the craft of writing as well as the challenges of preparing a manuscript for eBook and print on demand format in the self-publishing world.

Join Meadows Book Club for Donna Mitchellís book signing and the start of another fun-filled book club year. For more information, call Susie Casstevens at 972-775-3417.
