The Midlothian High School basketball program will be hosting its first Hoop Madness event at 11 p.m. Nov. 1 in the MHS basketball arena.
The program is designed to last for exactly one hour, and it will begin immediately following MHS’s last home football game.
Admission is free, and everyone is invited to come out and have fun ushering in the 2013-14 basketball season.
It will include MHS organizations such as the MHS cheerleaders, the regiment and color guard, the MHS choir, drill team and the MHS Blue Crew.
MHS Boys Basketball Booster President Matt McKay said all of the MHS boys and girls basketball program will be involved on the court during various portions of the event.
“There will be athleticism exhibited in a fun and light-hearted way,” McKay said. “The crowd will be shown a side of the athletes that they might not otherwise be used to seeing, all in the spirit of raising the excitement and anticipation of the basketball season.”
There will be free throw shooting contests between Walnut Grove Middle School and Frank Seale Middle School students, as well as the Dallas Maverick’s Man and Champ on site to participate in activities.
“The Dallas Mavs have an away game that night, so they agreed to allow the Dallas Mavs Man and Champ to participate in the first annual event,” McKay said. “The Mavs Man and Champ will be
shooting out free Dallas Mavs apparel to the fans during the evening, and the Mavs Man will perform a trampoline dunking routine for all the fans in attendance.”
McKay added that the entire Midlothian community has gotten involved, from Whataburger to Chicken Express.
“Those restaurants have agreed to give away free taquitos and a free medium sweet tea to the firs 500 fans,” he said.
Athletic Director Steve Keasler, Coach McCloud, Coach Slye, Coach Gabrysch, Coach Hartson and Coach McClelen along with the entire MHS basketball coaching staff and players hope this event becomes a lasting tradition for the entire Midlothian community.

About Hoop Madness
The idea for Hoop Madness came about this summer as the athletic department, coaches and players began discussing the possibility of creating some new traditions that would bring even more
increased energy and excitement to the MHS basketball program. Similar to college Midnight Madness, just not at midnight, Hoop Madness is a program that has been designed to usher in the upcoming basketball season in a fun-filled and entertaining way.
