Painting With a Twist, an art studio where people are encouraged to paint and drink wine, held its grand opening in Waxahachie on Friday night.
Owner and Operator Amy Horrey said their location in Arlington was completely booked, and to meet the needs of the Ellis County clientele they felt it was time to open a location in Waxahachie.
“Our studio in Arlington has been open for three years,” Horrey said. “I always said I wouldn't open another location unless my current location had a waiting list.”
Horrey said that time definitely came when her waiting list in Arlington continued to grow. Also, she said many people from the Waxahachie and Midlothian areas were constantly driving to her studio in Arlington.
“Many people in Waxahachie and Midlothian have come out to my studio in Arlington,” she said. “They have been anticipating the opening of this location, so they could be closer to home.”
Horrey said the entire concept behind the studio is to provide a fun atmosphere for aspiring artists to showcase their talent and enhance their craft.
“This is a fun place to be,” she said. “Bring a bottle of wine or another drink of choice, something to eat and sit down to paint with us for a couple of hours. We listen to music, we party and you leave with a painting that you created at the end.”
She added that it's the least expensive form of therapy for anyone looking to relieve stress.
Horrey's location in Arlington has become one of the top-ranked franchise locations, and she is expecting great things to happen in Waxahachie as well.
Horrey and her husband, Doug Horrey, opened Painting with a Twist as a tribute to her late parents.
All classes at Painting with a Twist are led by local art instructors and guests recreate existing paintings on bare 16 by 20-inch canvases, transforming a fun night out with friends into a work of art.
Anyone can sign up for painting sessions online at paintingwithatwist.com/waxahachie. Sessions are available Wednesday-Saturday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. A two-hour session costs $35 and a three-hour session costs $45. For more information, call Amy Horrey at 682-351-6013. The studio is located at 507 N. U.S. Highway 77, Suite 612.
About Painting with a Twist
Corks N Canvas was started in 2007 by Cathy Deano and Renee Maloney in Mandeville, La. The concept pairs instructional art with friends, wine and a lively instructor to produce individual works of art. With four locations in the greater New Orleans area, the company began franchising the business as Painting with a Twist in 2009. To date, 99 franchise locations are open all over the country. The company maintains the artwork copyrights and brand direction of the franchise locations to ensure that every location produces the same fun experience by which the company was founded.
Corks N Canvas and Painting with a Twist are the largest employers of aspiring artists in the country. The company recognized early on that the talents and enthusiasm of the staff were key elements to the success of the product. In just three years, Corks N Canvas, along with its 99 franchise locations, has produced and owns the copyright to more than 2,500 pieces of art. Each artwork was conceptualized and executed by the instructors with the idea of being an easy to follow piece of art for the inexperienced painter. The artwork ranges from landscapes, abstracts and cityscapes, to creative renderings of seafood, animals, iconic buildings and florals.
Due to the fact that the company owners were both fundraisers in their previous positions, they have maintained that a core value of the company is to be an active member of the community and to focus on giving back. With this in mind, Painting with a Purpose was created. Painting with a Purpose is a monthly fundraising event held at all Corks N Canvas and Painting with a Twist locations as a centralized effort to raise funds that stay local in each market. The partnering nonprofits have included St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, the Al Copeland Foundation, Leaps and Bounds Sports Center and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
