Robert Wayne “Bob” Spann, 67, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 in Midlothian, Texas after a short battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends.  Bob was born in Dallas, Texas on July 29, 1945 to John Clovis and Evelyn May Spann. Bob grew up in the South Oak Cliff area of Dallas where he graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1963. He was an avid football player and member of the “Dirty Thirty” where he was known as “Spider.” After high school, Bob attended the University of North Texas.

He enjoyed spending time with friends, riding motorcycles, water skiing and any time he could get on the lake to fish. It was during his many fishing excursions that he became known as “Bobby Bass” to many friends and family. Bob spent a few years working in different jobs before he went into business with his father as a co-owner of Graphic Engraving, Inc. This was where he spent most of his career before retiring in 2006. After retirement, Bob went back to some of his favorite pass-times, fishing for bass and playing cards with his friends most Wednesday nights. In addition he took up traveling and bought a RV for road trips with friends and family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Rhonda Young Spann; children, John David Spann, Jason Patrick Spann and wife, Janet, Michael Wayne Spann; step-children, David Benedict and Darren Benedict; grandchildren, Ashley Benedict, Taylor Lindsey Spann, Nathan Patrick Spann, Jacob Ryan Spann and Tyler Jackson Spann; sister, Gwen Kay Maroney and husband, Don, and nephews and nieces, Mark D. Williams, Tammy K. Walker and Matthew Williams. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, “Pete” and Evelyn Spann.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Midlothian Funeral Home.
