Elizabeth Kelley Manning
June 1, 1938 –
Sept. 29, 2013
Elizabeth Kelley Manning, 75, of Waxahachie passed away at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas on Sept. 29, 2013, with family and friends by her side. She was born in Waxahachie on June 1, 1938, the oldest of four children born to Duard (D.W.) and Martha Owens Kelley.
Elizabeth was raised in Waxahachie and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1956. While growing up, she and her younger siblings made many memories which have been shared over the years with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 7, 1957, Elizabeth married John Rex Manning, Jr. in Waxahachie. A few years after they married, they settled in Duncanville, where they raised their three sons.
Elizabeth was a member of the Thorntree Baptist Church of Cedar Hill. She was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to taking care of John and the three boys, she worked outside the home as an office manager for Morrison Management Company in Dallas for more than 30 years.
Her favorite pastime was to travel with John. With their travel trailer hooked up to John’s pickup, they traveled across the country, but their favorite place to go was Fun Valley in South Fork, Colo. After their retirement, John and Elizabeth spent almost every summer there. Elizabeth had such a sweet, gentle and kind spirit, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, John in 2009; her parents, Duard and Martha Kelley; her sister-in-law, Linda Manning; her brother-in-law, Danny Sims; and her great-nephew, Jeffrey Fraze, Jr.
She is survived by her three sons, Keith Manning (Michael Lindner) of Chicago, Ill., Terry Manning (Monica) of Midlothian; and Monte Manning (Jody Shafer) of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, Ashley Manning and her fiancé Gary Rafferty, Amanda Tierney (Nick), Haley Manning, and Laney Manning; three great-grandchildren, McKayla Woodward, Jackson Tierney, and William Tierney; sisters, Barbara Sims of Redfield, Ark., and Dorothy Phillips (Burlin) of Waxahachie; brother, Mike Kelley (Cindy) of Waxahachie; brother-in-law, Reggie Manning of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in the chapel at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie with Brother Grady Cashion officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Branch Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 1.
