Matt Willis, a senior lineman for the Glen Rose Tigers, is this week’s Glen Rose Reporter football “Athlete of the Week.”

Willis, who starts at left tackle on offense and plays part-time at defensive tackle, graded out at 95 percent on his blocking assignments in Friday’s 44-32 win at Venus.

Tigers head coach Cliff Watkins said that the 6-2, 260-pound Willis did not allow a quarterback sack, and had a key block on a touchdown run.

Willis, a starter on the offensive line since he was a freshman, also notched four solo tackles on defense in the Venus game.

“He’s just a great leader for our football team,” Watkins said of Willis, who is one of the team’s captains. “He’s a guy that does everything you ask him to do, and always is going to lead by example.”
