VENUS, Texas — Midlothian Heritage High School remained atop the District 8-4A boys' standings after knocking off Venus High School 81-40 Friday Night at VHS Gymnasium.

It was also the (20-4, 5-0) Jaguars fourth straight win since falling to Coronado High School on Dec. 31 during the Caprock Classic Basketball Tournament.

Behind Seth Golden's game-high 17 points, 11 points from Michael Holland and nine from Jackson McLaughlin, Midlothian Heritage outscored Venus in each of the four quarters — including a 22- and 24 point first and second quarters.

Going into halftime with a 46-19 lead didn't hurt the Jaguars' chances of remaining the only undefeated team in the district, either.

The Midlothian Heritage defense held 12 of Venus' 13 players to single-digit outputs and only one boy — Kelby Storm — to an 11-point performance. The (7-15, 0-5) Bulldogs scored nine points in the first quarter, 10 in the second, 14 in the third and seven in the fourth.

Golden, Holland and McLaughlin weren't the only players that added a valuable scoring punch during one of the season's biggest wins, though. Kerrion Fields (8 pts), Quinton Joseph (7 pts), Collin Valenta (6 pts) and Reggie Adams (5 pts) also added to the inside-outside depth of the Jaguars' offense.

Midlothian Heritage was scheduled to face Alvarado High School at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at MHHS Gymnasium. The (9-11, 3-1) Indians entered the game battling for third place in the district and earned key season wins against Glen Rose and Stephenville High Schools.
