FORNEY, Texas — Nineteen Ellis County strongwomen from Waxahachie, Red Oak, Maypearl and Kaufman punched tickets to the regional meet after lifting a grand total of 11,090 pounds during Saturday's 10th Annual Forney Jackrabbit Invitational at Forney High School.

The total was 500 pounds shy of five tons.

Devan Andrews (3rd), Alexandra De La Cruz (1st), Makayla Goos (5th), Mikayla Massara (6th), Natalie McBride (8th), Fre'kelle Rouse (2nd) and Sage Simmons (3rd) competed in the 114- through 220-pound weight classes. Each placed 12th or better, a requirement to reach the regional tournament.

Waxahachie's scintillating seven, powered by De La Cruz, lifted 4,215 pounds collectively.

While De La Cruz lifted the most weight (765 pounds) of the seven girls, Simmons (325), De La Cruz (150) and Rouse (315) mastered the respective squat, bench press and deadlift events.

Simmons, who finished fourth in the 165-pound weight class with a personal best in squat behind Rockwall-Heath's Kaitlynn Peterson, Canton's Jocie Fuller and Kaufman's Maiya Rodriguez, had marked improvements in the deadlift category. Her 750 total pounds was also the most of the four meets.

De La Cruz, who finished eighth in bench press in the 181-pound weight class, had her highest total since powering up the same weight at the Feb. 4 Rice (High School) Bulldog Invitational. She fell behind the likes of Peterson (1st), Fuller (4th) and Weatherford's Aubrey Dillinger and a touch ahead of Maypearl's Kellie Blake (9th).

Blake and Rodriguez, other Ellis County competitors, placed 11th and fourth, respectively, and claimed Maypearl's only and one Kaufman's two regional bids. Maypearl's other two lifters — Abby Carrizales and Taya Sanders — finished second (220-pound division) and sixth (114-pound division).

Kaufman's Nichole Howard, who is first in the region in the 123-pound weight class, did not lift at the invitational. Red Oak finished with the highest number qualified with nine.

Chantal Riley (2nd), Jesyka Lee (3rd) Sydnee Hammett (4th), Lindsey Weaver (4th), Makayla McDade (5th), Sarah O'Connor (5th), Avery Dickard (9th), Courtney Kendrick (10th), Alli Aydelott (11th) all placed in the top 12 in the 123- to 259-pound weight classes. They join Coy Brooke, Laura Espino, Erica Francisco and Rickia Smith on the road to regionals.

Red Oak's McDade finished 11th in the deadlift and 17th in the bench press competitions.
