MIDLOTHIAN — While her brother was busy using a 9-iron to scorch the competition on state tournament greens, Midlothian Heritage High School's Caroline Traylor was doing it with a pen, pencil and district-best intelligence.
Caroline, a senior Jaguar, became one of seven University Interscholastic League 4A female golfers to make the Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State Team when lists were released Monday.
The recent MHHS graduate and a McLennan Community College-bound student-athlete joined Borger High School's Whitney Bennett and Kathryn Gonzales, Carrolton Ranchview High School's Ava Castillo, Stephenville High School's Morgan Kinsey and Sweetwater High School's Kensi Chowning and Christa Martin on the 4A list.
There were 31 athletes chosen in total from the 1A through 6A classification.
To garner a nomination, athletes must be a senior, have a GPA of 94 or above through their freshman, sophomore and junior seasons and must be a team member in good standing. The head varsity coach must also be a member of the TGCA in good standing to nominate athletes for honors or to receive honors him or herself.
Under Head Coach Brant Bennett and the second year Jaguars, Caroline helped Midlothian Heritage win its second consecutive 4A district title and finish seventh in the girls' regional tournament.
She also claimed a District 8-4A Individual Golf Championship with Will, who was one of two city representatives at the state tournament. MHS Lady Panther Jasmine Zhang was the other.
One of the city's best golfers in recent memory, Caroline also excelled on the 6A golfing level as a member of Midlothian High School's Lady Panther team.
