In a close-knit small town like San Diego, that’s exactly what happens when your softball team comes back from state playoff elimination by winning back-to-back games on a steamy May afternoon.
San Diego beat Schulenberg twice in Victoria Saturday afternoon, 15-4 and 11-10. The Lady Vaqueros entered Saturday in a one-game hole after losing Game 1 of the best-of-three series, 7-3, Thursday night.
The Lady Vaqueros will now move on to the Class 3A Region IV finals where they will meet up with longtime nemesis Santa Gertrudis Academy. The schools have yet to decide on a date and location for their playoff or even the playoff format. The winner of the playoff between San Diego and Academy represents Region IV in the Class 3A state tournament.
Santa Gertrudes reached the regional finals by beating Hallettsville in two games, 3-1 and 5-0.
