With about a week and a half left to take donations, Christmas 4 Kids is about $1,500-$2,000 shy of reaching its $10,000 goal, said David Bauman, charity founder and local recording artist.

“We are a little bit short this year,” Bauman said. “The number of people giving has been up, but the amount given has been down.”

Christmas 4 Kids is a charity geared toward providing gifts to children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and more specifically, the town of Venus for the past 13-15 years, Bauman said.

Bauman said he started the charity after visiting an orphanage in Africa while on tour. He said he started sending gifts overseas, but soon realized there were local families in need.

“There’s still enough kids locally that still aren’t getting help, and we’re focusing on the Venus area," he said.

Last year, the charity provided presents for about 50 families and 200 children in Venus.

This year, the charity will help about 300 children and 80 families, said Monica Franklin, event coordinator for Christmas 4 Kids.

“Each year, it still touches my heart,” Franklin said. “But each year it gets bigger and better and reiterates why we do it.”

The charity also brought in special guests for this year's event. This year’s guests included Miss Texas Ivana Hall, recording artist David Jon Hartmann, the Chick-fil-A Cow, an Elvis impersonator and others.

The charity partners with different companies, locally and nationally. This year’s sponsors include Walmart in Midlothian and Arlington, Chick-fil-A, Kohl’s, Roof Time Contractors and Life Church in Midlothian.

The charity also held a family night fundraiser at the Waxahachie Chick-fil-A on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The event was something Bauman said he hopes to continue in the future. Franklin said the charity raised about $500 with raffle tickets and giveaways.

“I can’t bear the fact of kids not having something for Christmas,” Bauman said. “I do what I can, and if everybody gets together and helps everybody, then we can reach the people who need it.”

Christmas 4 Kids will take donations through Dec. 31. For more information on how to donate, visit the Christmas 4 Kids website.
