David ‘Bear’ Leon Thompson

June 7, 1965-

March 27, 2016

Midlothian resident David “Bear” Leon Thompson, 50, passed away the morning of March 27, 2016 after a six-year struggle with cancer. He was the son of Leon and Dixie Thompson, born June 7, 1965. David was a free-spirited soul, happiest when he had his four-legged kids by his side and a road trip in his sights. His many adventures took him all over the United States, but he especially loved camping with his dogs in the campgrounds of Texas State Parks. David never met a stranger and was always a champion for those less fortunate than him. Injuries from an automobile accident in his youth prevented him from pursuing a traditional career, but he took pride in his seasonal produce sales. He loved Christmas and was like a kid every Christmas morning. His strong belief in eternal life was a comfort to him when his illness prevented him from driving during the last stages of his illness. David lived and died on his own terms. David is survived by his parents Leon and Dixie Thompson, of Midlothian; sister Tillie Thompson, of Arlington; her children Cadeyn, Stephanie and husband Corey and their daughter Lucy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many life-long friends. David is also survived by two of his four-legged companions, Lady and Diamond. He was preceded in death by his companions Rosie, Kacey and Rusty. Memorial donations may be made to Operation Kindness at www.operationkindness.org in lieu of flowers.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016 at Midlothian Funeral Home and services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Oak Crest Baptist Church, Midlothian, TX.
