Firefighters quickly cleared a vehicle fire blocking traffic in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 67 Thursday morning.

The department received a call at 7:22 a.m. Thursday morning about a vehicle fire, said Kevin Lucia, fire marshal for the city of Midlothian. The vehicle was between the Overlook Drive and the 9th Street bridges.

"The driver said he was driving when he saw smoke coming from under the hood. When he raised the hood, the engine was on fire," Lucia said. "It was a 21-year-old pickup so there is no telling what caused it."

The driver did not sustain any injuries, he said, and no other vehicles were involved. Firefighters were on scene for about 30 minutes and a wrecker removed the vehicle from the highway.

"The guys got it out pretty quick, but we did have a significant traffic back up," Lucia said.

There was no damage to the roadway that will need repairs, he said.
