SAN ANTONIO — Air Force Airman Basic Kassie Kay DeMerse recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

DeMerse, who has since started Air Force Tech School at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, is working toward a career in Advanced Fighter Integrated Avionics. After a few months of schooling in Wichita Falls, she will transfer to Eglin AFB in Florida for follow-on training.

Before enlisting, the 2014 Midlothian High School graduate attended Navarro College while working at Brookshire's Grocery Store in Midlothian.

Her parents, Shannon and Stuart DeMerse along with her sisters Kira and Kaidi, and her grandmother Janie Walker all from Midlothian, as well as Kassie's grandparents, Richard and Edith DeMerse from Marquette, Michigan traveled to San Antonio, Texas to watch Kassie graduate.
