WAXAHACHIE — Hot off the stove and straight onto the tarmac, Mid-Way Regional Airport will host its annual Pancake Breakfast Fly-in event and the community is invited.

“It’s something we have every year, and we’ve had it for over 20 years,” expressed Tammy Bowen of Mid-Way Regional’s airport operations. “It’s just something we do for the community in conjunction with the Gingerbread Trail. It’s a very unique event for the family, and we have something for every age. Both locals and people from other cities come out to enjoy this event every year."

Located between Midlothian and Waxahachie, the airport stands as a combined symbol of community comradery and all things aviation.

“We hope for the community to come out and see what they spend their tax dollars on,” Bowen acknowledged. “We want to get people involved, especially children of young ages. We’d like to get them interested in aviation, and get the community active.”

“There are a lot of people who don’t know that the airport is here and I just want to make everybody aware and to come out and see and have a blast with us,” she encouraged.

Last year, the festival served hot pancakes to almost 1,000 people within three hours. This year, Bowen hopes to exceed the number with the help of Boy Scout Troop 524.

“The Boy Scout Troop 524 will be out here doing the catering, so they’ll be here, and it’ll help benefit them,” Bowens explained the details. “The breakfast for children under the age of eight will be $3, and everyone else over the age of eight will be $6.”

Lined up with family friendly activities, the Fly-in will have everything from helicopter rides to face painting, and open cockpit biplane rides.

“This year, we’ll have remote control model flyers, a static display, and have live demonstrations,” Bowen described. “The Midlothian Classic Wheels and Gold Wing Road Riders Association will be here with their rides, and we'll also have some live music, and then we have children activities, such as train rides, bounce houses, and Dusty the Clown will be here."

Although parking and general admission to the event are free, Bowens also mentions a few of the activities charge a small fee.

“It’s a free event, so it doesn’t cost anything to get in, and it’s free parking,” Bowens affirmed. “The only thing that costs is the breakfast and a few rides.”

Through rain or shine, the Pancake Breakfast Fly-in will be a time for all of Ellis County to enjoy.

“It’s a great family event for everyone with something to do for all ages, and we’re all about helping build the workforce of tomorrow by getting kids interested in aviation,” Bowens incorporated.“It’s also a great opportunity that you don’t find every day, and a special time for the community to come out and enjoy their airport, and for families to have a fun time."

The Mid-Way Regional Airport Annual Pancake Breakfast Fly-in will be held at 131 Airport Drive, Midlothian, Saturday, June 3. The festivities kick off at 8 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. with breakfast costing $6 for adults eight and over, and $3 for children under eight (cash only).
