STEPHENVILLE — Georgia Capell, a 2017 Midlothian graduate, loudly announced her arrival to Tarleton State softball fans in the TexAnns' annual fall scrimmage over the weekend — twice.

Capell launched two home runs in the win and will begin preparing for the upcoming regular season as a true freshman on the TexAnn softball team.

Fresh off a NCAA regional tournament appearance in his first year as a head coach, Mark Cumpian has announced the schedule for his second season at Tarleton.

"We're excited about the schedule we've put together," said Cumpian. "The Lone Star Conference is one of the toughest softball conferences in the country so we wanted to prepare our team with some tough tournaments and non-conference opponents. I think we accomplished that and I'm looking forward to seeing what this team can accomplish."

Tarleton will open the season on February 2 with a trip to Durant, Oklahoma for a six-game tournament at Southeastern Oklahoma State. The TexAnns will follow up the next weekend with a five-game tournament in San Antonio at the St. Mary's College Classic, where Tarleton will see Texas Woman's in a non-conference showdown.

After one final non-conference tune-up against St. Edward's in Austin on Valentine's Day, Tarleton will begin LSC action on the road at Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 16 before opening league action in Stephenville on Feb. 23 against Eastern New Mexico.

Tarleton's traditional home series schedule during league play will include one night game on Friday with a doubleheader on Saturday. The ENMU series will be a Friday doubleheader with a single game on Saturday, and the Western New Mexico series will be a four-game series with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday with only the first three games counting towards the league standings.

The TexAnns are coming off a 35-22 season in Cumpian's debut campaign as a NCAA head coach. He became the first rookie head coach in Tarleton's NCAA history to make the postseason in his first year.
