CARROLLTON — Two years of varsity football have already produced two district championships for the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars.

The Jaguars officially notched their second District 6-4A title in as many years with a 57-28 win over Carrollton Ranchview. With the win, Heritage improved to 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in district play. The Jaguars are the No. 6 team in the Associated Press 4A poll.

"I very proud of the guys," said Heritage head football coach Lee Wiginton. "They continue to improve and continue to get better and continue to do good things. The guys came out and executed well. The special teams made some big plays, too.

"The defense did a really good job containing a really good running back. He is a very good football player, and the defense did a great job of containing him. I could not be more proud of the whole team effort.”

Heritage scored three times in the first and second quarters to jump out in front of the Wolves 43-7 at the half. Four of those first-half touchdowns came via Landon Ledbetter passes.

“It was a very well played first half," Wiginton added.

The junior signal-caller finished the game 11-of-14 (79 percent) for 152 yards and four touchdowns. Backup quarterback Cade Sumbler completed 2-of-his-4 passes for 55 yards and two touchdowns, as well.

Three of those touchdowns went to receiver Jay Wilkerson, who finished with a team-high six catches for 88 yards. Langston Anderson matched the yardage total on his four grabs.

It was also Anderson who put the Jaguars on the board first. His 20-yard touchdown reception from Ledbetter came with 9:31 to play in the first quarter and was followed less than a minute later with a 6-yard run by Raja Banks.

The rushing score came after Heritage's Cade Sumbler recovered a Ranchview fumble of the kickoff that followed the Langston score. Talon Berg also recovered a loose ball during the game, while Anderson blocked a punt to set up a second-quarter touchdown.

Banks finished the game with nine carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while Noah Parker (1-47), Ledbetter (2-39), Christian Elliot (6-25), Dre Washington (4-25) and Key Brooks (8-8) all contributed to the Jaguars' 208 rushing yards.

Heritage will close out the regular season at Midlothian ISD Multipurpose Stadium against Wilmer Hutchins.

"We will go out there, and we will be ready for them,” Wiginton said.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
