Forty minutes of regulation was not enough time for the Midlothian Lady Panthers and Lancaster Lady Tigers to decide the winner of a crucial District 10-5A basketball game with playoff implications.

Neither was an extra overtime period.

The Lady Panthers took a 61-58 lead in the second overtime with 42.19 seconds to play and held on to the 65-61 road win.

Tatum Sorrels scored four points in the second overtime, while Kiera Middleton and Cristina Balderrama both scored two to help the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Tigers 12-8 in the frame.

Balderrama and Middleton combined to score all five Midlothian points in the first overtime frame, and it was Middleton's seven fourth-quarter points that helped the Lady Panthers tie the game at the end of regulation.

"I am proud of the fight in all of the kids,' Midlothian head girls' basketball coach Amy Tennison said. "No matter how much we got down or when we had to have a play, we made it. We got a little luck, too."

"[...] We made some mistakes, gave them some easy baskets and left 20 points on the free throw line going 14-of-34, and they (Lancaster) capitalized on that. We kept fighting, and I am proud of the fight in my kids. We had lots of opportunities and finally finished it in the second overtime."

Balderrama led the Lady Panthers with 17 points in the victory, while Middleton finished with 14, Sorrels had 12, and Mikaela McGuire scored 11.

Sarah Williams added three points to the cause. Sydney Massey, Savanna Glossup and Maeghan Palmer all scored two points to round out the Midlothian scoring.

"I was proud of the poise that we had down the stretch, scoring when we needed to score, and of our execution and keeping our heads in," Tennison added. "It was a great game."

The win moved Midlothian to 17-9 on the season and 6-3 in District 10-5A. The Lady Panthers are two games clear of fifth-place Mansfield Legacy for the fourth-and-final district playoff spot with five games to play.

Midlothian returns to action at home Tuesday, Jan. 23 against the Mansfield Legacy Lady Broncos. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m.
