Ellis County Commissioners took action to change the name of Anderson Road to Anderson Ranch Road at their Tuesday meeting. The change is due to two roads in the county sharing the same name.

County Engineer Ted Kantor addressed the court about the potential problem that could arise if a street-name change did not take place. He noted that the move would eliminate confusion.

“One is in the northern part of the county, and the other is in the southern part. It has come to our attention from the state database that it has been flagged as a potential error in emergency services dispatch,” Kantor said. “We don’t want any confusion on which Anderson Road to go to. We kicked this around and a fewer number of people in the southern road would be affected.”

The first road is near Red Oak and the second road is near Forreston and Five Points. Fifty letters were sent out to residents who would be affected by the change as well as notices posted.

Kantor explained the change to Anderson Ranch Road is unique enough to eliminate the problem for dispatchers and first responders and will honor local history.

In other business commissioners,

• Took no action on a request to amend the county rules, regulations, and specifications for subdivisions and manufactured homes

• Took no action on a proposed amendment for on-site sewage facilities to discontinue the continuous maintenance contract requirements for septic systems and meet the minimum state regulations.

• Approved a request to grant a one-time variance from the county rules and regulations to allow the construction of a single-family residence located at 434 Tightwad Road in Maypearl.

• Approved a replat of one lot into two lots located on the north side of U.S. Highway 77 east of Morgan Road in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Italy.

• Approved a request to grant a one-time variance from the county rules and regulations and specifications for subdivisions and manufactured homes to allow an in-ground pool to encroach into the side building line and utility easement located at 1520 Ashemore Court in the ETJ of the City of Midlothian.

• Approved to declare a 1991 Chevrolet Ejecto Truck, a 1993 Chevrolet 1500, 1983 asphalt sprayer truck, a 2008 rhino Cutter, a 1988 Caterpillar excavator, a 2009 New Holland Backhoe Loader, 1994, Caterpillar Loader, and law library books as surplus.

• Took no action in an update given to commissioners’ court regarding revenues received by the purchasing department.

• Approved for Ellis County Judge Carol Bush to sign the supplemental watershed plan and environmental evaluation for the rehabilitation of floodwater retarding structures on the chambers creek watershed.

• Heard a report on the 2017 municipal separate storm sewer systems annual report before it was submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

• Approved a resolution to struck of property for public use in the City of Milford’s downtown area.

• No action was taken to enact a burn ban.

• Approved to contract with GRS to perform the GASB 75 report with the North Central Texas Council of Governments.

• Approved a work order for the City of Palmer to level city hall parking lot and fill potholes on Wilson Road.

• Tabled a decision on commissioner court meetings times.

• Took no action to authorize the county attorney to offer and settle a claim on behalf of the county involving Kirk Ingram for damages resulting from the death of his dog.
