The Junior Optimist Club in Midlothian is hosting its first event to raise scholarship money for members.

Midlothian middle school students put together a dance called, “The One Joy.” This carnival-style event will take place at Frank Seale Middle School from 7 p.m. — 10 p.m. on April, Friday 13. The dance is open to all Midlothian ISD students in sixth through eighth grade.

The throwback dance will provide a live DJ, a dance contest to win cash, carnival games, and a cakewalk. Frank Seale Middle School will have both gyms open for basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball. There will also be a haunted hallway to test students’ fears.

Other activities will include face painting, karaoke, and a photo booth.

A full concession stand will serve pizza, nachos, candy bars, chips, and beverages.

Ticket entry is $5 at the door, and all activities require a ticket. Each booth and activity varies on the number of tickets required to play. Students can purchase five tickets for $1.

Sixth-grade English language arts and reading teacher, Jennifer Barnes, who is also the Junior Optimist Club sponsor, said most kids could enjoy a full night of fun with $20.
