Navarro College has celebrated a decade of "Brilliance," offering over 1,100 scholarships to dual and general education students in Ellis County.

The Brilliance Scholarship Fundraiser began in 2009 to dedicate educational opportunities to students through financial support.

During the 10th annual scholarship fundraiser, Navarro raised over $200,000 through a live auction. The black-tie event was hosted at the Waxahachie Civic Center April 6.

Students who submitted under general education will receive their scholarships this week. Those awarded will be notified via Navarro College email address.

The deadline for dual credit applications is June 1.

Julie Clasper, Navarro College Administrative Assistant of Ellis County campuses, emphasized in the past, every student who applied and qualified for a scholarship was awarded.

Clasper explained how they do not award graduate scholarships, so if a student were looking to go to the University of Texas at Arlington, they would not qualify for the Brilliance Scholarship.

“So, the money raised in Ellis County, stays in Ellis County,” Clasper elaborated.

Navarro College provides scholarships to freshmen all the way up to seniors in high school and even students who have not started high school.

Students who apply for the dual-credit scholarship must maintain a 3.0 GPA and enroll in at least one dual credit course in the fall and spring semesters. If it is a student’s first semester to enroll in a college-level course and he or she does not have a GPA, the scholarship can still be awarded, but the student is expected to maintain the 3.0 GPA.

Students can log on to https://navarrocollege.academicworks.com/ to apply for the scholarship. If students have received a scholarship before, he or she can log in. If it is a first time for a student to log in, they will need to create a username and password in the top right corner.

The website is new, so if a student has a problem signing in, he or she can contact the recruiting public information officer at 903-875-7331.

Books are not covered, but the duel credit scholarship covers one class, which is equivalent to three credits.
